I will give a quick review on the somewhat surprising recent interest in the string community on machine learning techniques applied to large data sets. Then I will turn to the connection between deep neural nets and renormalisation in QFT and the relationship with the AdS/CFT correspondence. Leading to a connection between DNN behaviour and fields in curved spacetime.
