Summary

The mechanism of CP violation present in the Standard Model is insufficient to explain the observed baryon asymmetry in the universe. Several possible explanations for this discrepancy exist, including the existence of additional sources of CP violation. Permanent electric dipole moments of simple systems offer an excellent opportunity to expose the existence of such sources because of their highly suppressed Standard Model prediction and generic sensitivity to New Physics contributions.
